Platform Comparison

Gabify Connect vs TheraNest, SimplePractice, and CentralReach

TheraNest, SimplePractice, and CentralReach are well-built platforms with real depth. If you run a therapy practice in the United States, they are worth evaluating seriously. If you run a therapy centre in India, you will immediately hit a wall: USD billing, US insurance workflows (CPT codes, ERA/EOB) you will never use, no INR invoicing, no GST, no WhatsApp integration, and patient data stored on servers outside India. The DPDPA 2023 makes that last point more than a technicality.

The Gabify Advantage

Gabify Connect is the only platform combining a 9-domain AI developmental screening tool (Neurolens) with full-scale practice management, WhatsApp-first parent communication, and a verified therapy referral marketplace in one unified ecosystem.

What the Feature List Does Not Tell You

1. What these platforms genuinely do well

TheraNest, SimplePractice, and CentralReach are mature, well-designed products. SimplePractice has a polished user experience with strong scheduling and documentation tools. TheraNest offers a comprehensive clinical and billing workflow with solid reporting. CentralReach is built specifically for ABA and special education, with detailed data collection, program management, and payroll features. For a US therapy practice or an Indian centre serving US patients with US insurance, these are serious options. The issue is not quality: it is fit for an Indian operating context.

2. The USD billing reality for Indian centres

All three platforms bill in USD. At current exchange rates that translates to roughly Rs. 2,400 to Rs. 5,000+ per user per month before conversion fees, which is two to four times the cost of Gabify Connect. More practically, your invoice is in USD, your bank may charge foreign transaction fees, and your accounts team cannot easily reconcile USD SaaS subscriptions with INR operational expenses. None of these platforms generate INR invoices, handle GST, or produce the billing output an Indian therapy centre's accountant actually needs.

3. US insurance workflow is irrelevant and cannot be turned off

A large portion of the interface, workflow, and support documentation in these platforms is built around US health insurance: CPT codes, ERA (Electronic Remittance Advice), EOB (Explanation of Benefits), superbills, and insurance eligibility verification. None of this applies to Indian therapy centres, which run on direct-pay, package-based, or (occasionally) TPA reimbursement models. You are paying for and navigating around a billing infrastructure that is entirely inapplicable to your practice.

4. Data residency outside India is a DPDPA 2023 concern

The Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 (DPDPA) governs how Indian organisations handle personal data of Indian citizens. Patient records, parent contact information, and child developmental data stored on US-based servers create compliance exposure for therapy centres, particularly as enforcement guidance develops. Gabify Connect stores all data in India and is DPDPA-aligned. This is not a theoretical future risk: it is a reasonable operational precaution for any centre handling sensitive health data of minors.

5. No WhatsApp and no Indian communication layer

WhatsApp is the primary communication channel between therapy centres and parents in India. Session reminders, progress updates, rescheduling, and payment follow-ups all happen on WhatsApp. None of the international platforms have a WhatsApp integration. They use email and SMS, which have significantly lower open and response rates in the Indian context. Gabify Connect sends WhatsApp parent updates natively as part of the platform, which is a meaningful operational difference for day-to-day centre communication.

Who Should Choose Which

Consider international platforms if:

  • You run a therapy practice in the United States
  • You treat patients who use US health insurance and need CPT code billing, ERA/EOB workflows, and superbills
  • You are an Indian centre that primarily serves US-based diaspora clients with US insurance coverage
  • HIPAA compliance is a contractual requirement for your payers

Choose Gabify Connect if:

  • You run an Indian therapy centre with INR billing and direct-pay or package-based revenue
  • You need GST invoicing, INR accounts, and billing your Indian accountant can actually work with
  • You communicate with parents on WhatsApp and want that integrated into your platform
  • You need DPDPA-aligned data storage in India, not US-hosted servers
  • You want ABDM onboarding and multi-domain AI screening calibrated on Indian children
  • You want transparent INR pricing with no USD conversion costs
Got questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Why not just use SimplePractice or TheraNest in India?
The core problem is fit. These platforms are built around US insurance billing (CPT codes, ERA, EOB), US clinical templates, USD pricing, US data hosting, and a US communication context (email and SMS). An Indian therapy centre running direct-pay or package-based billing will spend significant time working around features that do not apply, paying in USD, and operating without the INR invoicing, GST, WhatsApp communication, and ABDM onboarding that the Indian context requires. The cost in USD also tends to be two to four times higher than Gabify Connect in INR terms.
How much does USD billing actually cost an Indian centre?
At current exchange rates, $29-$59 per user per month translates to roughly Rs. 2,400 to Rs. 5,000+ per user, before any foreign currency transaction fees your bank charges. A centre with 5 staff on a mid-tier international plan could pay Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 25,000 per month plus conversion costs. Gabify Connect is Rs. 1299 per user per month (introductory, locked for centres joining before 31 July 2026), billed in INR with no conversion exposure.
Is there a real DPDPA risk if our patient data is stored in the US?
Yes, this is a legitimate concern. The Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 governs how Indian organisations process personal data of Indian citizens. Therapy centres handle sensitive health data of minors, including diagnostic information, session records, and family details. Storing this on US-based servers creates compliance exposure as DPDPA enforcement matures. Gabify Connect hosts all data in India and is DPDPA-aligned, which is the appropriate posture for an Indian therapy centre handling children's health records.
These platforms are HIPAA compliant. Is that not enough?
HIPAA is a US health data privacy regulation. It governs US-based healthcare providers and their vendors. It does not substitute for DPDPA compliance for Indian entities handling Indian citizens' data. Being HIPAA compliant tells you that the vendor takes data security seriously in a US regulatory context. It does not address the Indian data residency requirement or the specific obligations that DPDPA places on Indian data fiduciaries. For an Indian therapy centre, DPDPA alignment and Indian data hosting are the relevant standards.
Do TheraNest, SimplePractice, or CentralReach support ABDM?
No. ABDM (Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission) is India's national digital health infrastructure program. None of the major US platforms have ABDM onboarding because it is not relevant to their US market. Gabify Connect is ABDM sandbox onboarded, which positions enrolled centres to participate in India's digital health ecosystem as ABDM integration becomes an industry expectation.
